English Language Arts

In third grade we will use an anchor text for 2 weeks. In the first week, students will use the text to build vocabulary knowledge as well as utilize comprehension strategies. Both vocabulary knowledge and understanding of the text will be assessed on the first Friday. The second week will focus on spelling, grammar, and writing skills. Spelling words and grammar will be assessed on the second Friday of our story. In addition, students will explore phonetic patterns each week. Please note that vocabulary and spelling words are listed in the graphic below.

Social Studies

Our third grade social studies curriculum involves the study of Michigan.  To enhance our learning, we will have the Metro Parks of Michigan come out to present to our students.  The programs “People of the Three Fires,” “French Voyageurs,” and “Timber!” fit well into our curriculum and are very appropriate for third graders.  Through their mobile learning center, all of these programs are available to come to our school so that we do not have to pay the transportation expense.  The presenters bring materials that enhance the learning for the theme.

The cost for all three presentations will be a total of $5 per child.  There is no permission slip or chaperones necessary because we are not leaving the school grounds.

The Huron-Clinton Mobile Learning Center will be here on October 28th for the “People of the Three Fires” presentation, November 30th for the “French Voyageurs” presentation, and December 16th for “Timber!”. Please turn in $5 by October 4th so we can secure our reserved dates.

A special thank you to the Allen Park Presbyterian Church for a donation to bring down the cost of the presentations.

Message from the Lunch Lady…

We are experiencing a lot of students coming in with their own lunches, but no drinks. Please remember to put money into their child’s account (link below) if they want to purchase a milk or a juice. Milk and juice is only free to those who are ordering full lunches. Thank you.

We would also like to remind our families to fill out the free and reduced lunch applications- even though it’s free for all students this year, the number of approved applications help determine how much Title I (federal dollars for at risk) the building receives. We have included the link you need below.

Arno Fun Run

The Arno Fun Run will take place on Friday, September 24th. Each class will run on the blacktop during their designated time. The third grade is scheduled as follows: Mrs. Kalis at 1:20-1:35, Mrs. Guyot at 1:35-1:50, and Mrs. Warneck at 1:50-2:05. If you would like to volunteer to help with this even, please click on the link below to sign up. Please remind your child to wear tennis shoes and dress accordingly on the day of our event. Water bottles containing plain water are strongly encouraged.
