Your child will be taking the M-STEP Math assessment on Tuesday, May 2nd an Wednesday, May 3rd. M-STEP is a 21st Century online test. It is designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards. In order to help prepare your child to do his/her best on this state assessment, please encourage your child to be their best self by doing the following:

  1. Get a good night’s rest; go to bed earlier than normal. Refrain from screens 1 hour prior to bedtime to support optimal REM sleep cycle.
  2. Eat breakfast; nothing too heavy.
  3. Charge his/her chromebook the night before testing.
  4. Arrive to school on time; we begin our testing session right away.
  5. Be positive, and let your child know that HE/SHE CAN DO IT!

Science: Animals Through Time

In this unit, students develop an understanding of how animals and their environments change through time. Fossils provide a window into the animals and habitats of the past. Analyzing the traits of animals provides evidence for how those traits vary, how they are inherited, and how they have changed over time. Students also examine how the environment can affect inherited traits and determine which animals will survive in a particular environment.

Social Studies: Michigan Today and Tomorrow

In chapter 6, students will learn about Michigan’s people, jobs, products, crops, and what brings tourists to Michigan. We will also explore the concept of interdependence with other states and countries. Here is the link to our digital textbook: https://www.calameo.com/read/004981858073ca9c1b856?authid=ty1VT8686HR1. The username is “Allen”, and the password is “Park22”. Access is also available in Google Classroom.

ReflexMath

Please remember that mastery of multiplication and division facts is the goal for the end of third grade. The report card will be marked accordingly. Students should be completing a session of ReflexMath daily. We try to fit it in during the school day, but this is not always possible. Please remind your child after school in case it hasn’t been completed yet for the day. You can see your child’s progress through their Reflex account. So far, here are the classroom stats:

Congratulations to Leah G! She mastered all of her math facts on ReflexMath and earned her Prodigy login credentials.

Field Trip

Third graders will be heading to Detroit! We will be visiting the Michigan DNR’s Outdoor Adventure Center. This trip will immerse your child in Michigan’s history and nature. Please have both the Field Trip Parental Permission Slip and $6 payment turned in to school by Wednesday, May 3rd.
