English Language Arts

In third grade we will use an anchor text for 2 weeks. The second week of the lesson students will focus on grammar, spelling, and writing. The focus for our grammar lessons this week is simple sentences. Grammar will be assessed this Friday. We decided to wait on spelling words and writing due to additional assessments that need to be completed this week.

Edmentum

Students have also been reintroduced to Edmentum. The third grade focus is earning trophies. Students will also be required to earn 2 trophies in the area of reading. Trophies are earned by completing a Progress Check with 80% or higher. Students were also shown how to check if they met their trophy goal.

Math: Reflex & Edmentum

The students have been reintroduced to ReflexMath. The daily goal is for all students to get their green light (a full filled in green circle at the top right corner of their screen). Here are the class standings so far this year:

Students have also been reintroduced to Edmentum. The third grade goal is earning trophies. Students will also be practicing to earn 1 trophy in the area of math. Trophies are earned by completing a Progress Check with 80% or higher.

Social Studies

Our third grade social studies curriculum involves the study of Michigan.  To enhance our learning, we will have the Huron-Clinton Metro Parks come out to present to our students.  The programs “People of the Three Fires,” “French Voyageurs,” and “Timber!” fit well into our curriculum and are very appropriate for third graders.  Through their mobile learning center, all of these programs are available to come to our school so that we do not have to pay the transportation expense.  The presenters bring materials that enhance the learning for the theme.

The cost for all three presentations will be a total of $5 per child.  There is no permission slip or chaperones necessary because we are not leaving the school grounds.

The Huron-Clinton Mobile Learning Center will be here on November 1st for the “People of the Three Fires” presentation, November 30th for the “French Voyageurs” presentation, and January 24th for “Timber!”. Please turn in $5 by October 2nd so we can secure our reserved dates.

Many thanks to those who have already sent in the $5!

Chromebooks

Please remember to charge chromebooks each night so they are ready to go for the next day! It is very difficult to charge all 29 chromebooks in the classroom since we are limited on outlets, and spacing.

If chromebooks come home, please make sure that the chromebooks are put back in their backpacks to bring back to school EACH DAY! Coming to school without the chromebook makes in-class activities difficult to complete if the students do not have the necessary materials. We do have 2 classroom Chromebooks that can be used in an emergency! But something to keep in mind: if 4 students forget their chromebook, 2 isn’t enough to solve the problem! Please help your child remember the necessary materials while they get back into a routine!
