English Language Arts
In third grade we will use an anchor text for 2 weeks. This week, students will focus on spelling, grammar, and writing skills. Spelling words and grammar will be assessed this Friday. Please note that students are provided individualized spelling lists for their test. Groups are determined according to a pre-assessment which allows a student to work at his/her ability while also being challenged. Please see your child’s paper copy to determine their assigned word group. Please use these words to complete the spelling contract located on the back of the Weekly Spelling assignment.
**Weekly Homework**
This homework assignment was sent home Friday, October 20th. Your child’s hard copy individualized list will be highlighted. The first 12 words utilize a spelling pattern; whereas, the last 3 words are common words that every third grader should know.
**Edmentum**
Third grade’s focus is earning trophies as students navigate their learning path. Students are encouraged to earn 2 trophies in the area of reading. Trophies are earned by completing a Progress Check with 80% or higher. Students know how to check if they met their trophy goal.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be on Wednesday, November 8th (5:00-7:30p.m.) and Thursday, November 9th (12:45-3:15p.m. & 5:00-7:30p.m.). Please sign up for only one conference time per child. Because conferences are scheduled in 15 minute increments, please be respectful of others and arrive on time.
If you are unable to attend conferences, please send a note or email to your child’s teacher notifying them that you will not be able to attend conferences.

Reflex Math
Please remember that mastery of multiplication and division facts is the goal for the end of third grade. The report card will be marked accordingly. Students should be completing a session of ReflexMath daily. We try to fit it in during the school day, but this is not always possible. Please remind your child after school in case it hasn’t been completed yet for the day. So far, here are the classroom stats:
Kudos to Alice A. for earning 100% fact fluency on her addition/subtraction facts. She has graduated on to the multiplication and division program. Keep up the great work!
Halloween Festivities
On Tuesday, October 31st, the third graders will be enjoying Halloween with possible activities such as watching a short movie, making a craft, and reading/listening to stories. We also felt that a festive treat would be a great addition. If you are able to provide any of the requested items, please sign up below. Please send any donated items to school the day before our celebration. If you are unable to click on a particular item, the item may no longer be needed. Many thanks to those who have already signed up to send in a donation.
Please also remember that students should wear costumes to school. (Please no weapon props or masks.) Our costume parade will take place outside (pending weather) at 10:00. Please be ready with your cameras during the parade and after school. Parents will not be entering the classroom throughout the day.Thanks so much for your cooperation!
