English Language Arts

In third grade we will use an anchor text for 2 weeks. This week, students will focus on spelling, grammar, and writing skills. Spelling words and grammar will be assessed Friday, December 1st. Please note that students are provided individualized spelling lists for their test.  Groups are determined according to a pre-assessment which allows a student to work at his/her ability while also being challenged. Please see your child’s paper copy to determine their assigned word group. Please use these words to complete the spelling contract located on the back of the Weekly Spelling assignment.

**Weekly Homework**

This homework assignment was sent home Friday, November 17th. Your child’s hard copy individualized list will be highlighted. The first 12 words utilize a spelling pattern; whereas, the last 3 words are common words that every third grader should know. Students are to complete activities totaling 20 points and attach them to the activity paper.

Weekly Homework (Spelling Contract 3) due 12/1/2023

**Edmentum**

Third grade’s focus is earning trophies as students navigate their learning path. Students are encouraged to earn 2 trophies in the area of reading and 1 in math. Trophies are earned by completing a Progress Check with 80% or higher. Students know how to check if they met their trophy goal.

October Super Cougars

Introducing October’s Super Cougars! Katie, Sophia, and Sundus have proven to be safe, responsible, and respectful students in third grade. They earned Culver’s lunch with Mr. Zielinski. We are so proud of them!

Reflections

All third graders had previously worked on a writing piece using the theme “I am hopeful because…”.

“I am hopeful because…” is also the theme for the Reflections contest this year. If your child would like to submit his/her writing for the Reflections contest, please sign and return the consent form (it is going home on Monday, 11/13). If your child participates in the Reflections contest, he/she will earn 2 extra credit points on this writing assignment. We are pleased to see so many being returned for submission.

Student Connect/Parent Connect

Did you know…students can access grades and missing assignments too (with your help)!

When accessing your Parent Connect account, your child’s Student Connection PIN and login are listed for you to share with them (see below). This will help build independence and instill a sense of ownership and responsibility for their own learning.

Students can login HERE. This link is also posted in our Google Classroom for convenience.

We will be updating the grades in the grade book throughout the week. Please be sure to encourage your child to check in and see how they are doing with the content and work completion.

Reflex Math

Please remember that mastery of multiplication and division facts is the goal for the end of third grade. The report card will be marked accordingly. Students should be completing a session of ReflexMath daily. We try to fit it in during the school day, but this is not always possible. Please remind your child after school in case it hasn’t been completed yet for the day. So far, here are the classroom stats:

Congratulations to Katie and Johnathan. They both mastered their multiplication facts up to 12s and have earned their Prodigy login info. Way to go!
